Student Leadership
Student-led Choir Council
The Marshall Choir Council offers students the opportunity to gain leadership experience, and promote the performing arts department within the school and the community. These student leaders are to help in the day-to-day operations of the choir program. Each of these officers will be elected by an application process.
A Capella
Join Noteworthy!
Noteworthy is an auditioned extracurricular mixed a cappella group. This student-led group performs arrangements of contemporary songs at most chorus concerts. Students do not have to enrolled in a primary ensemble to be eligible to audition for Noteworthy. Auditions take place at the beginning of each school year and consist of a solo audition and group callbacks.
Tri-M Music Honor Society
In a phrase, perform, lead, and serve.
A Tri-M Music Honor Society chapter opens up a world of opportunities for students who have already shown themselves to be academically capable and musically gifted. Through performance and community service, they’ll develop confidence, creativity, critical thinking, compassion, and a host of other leadership skills sure to serve them well in school and beyond.
ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES
All District Chorus
District Chorus is an audition-based enrichment opportunity for students in the choral program. There is an audition required which usually takes place on a Saturday (November). The audition consists of a required prepared selection and sight-reading. All students who audition will be scored through “blind audition” by a pair of judges. Those with the top scores in each section will then be selected to participate in the actual event to be held later in the year. 9th and 10th grade sopranos and altos are selected for the Treble Chorus. 11th & 12 grade sopranos and altos and all tenors and basses are selected for the Mixed Chorus. Students who audition are expected to attend the event if accepted (February). Rehearsals take place on a Thursday evening, Friday during the school day and Saturday morning with a culminating performance Saturday afternoon. Students selected will receive a set of music to prepare for the event. Guest conductors are hired to direct each of the choirs. Students in Advanced level ensembles are required to audition. Both audition fees and participation fees apply.

VMEA Senior Honors Choir
Senior Honors Choir is sponsored by VMEA. This event is open to seniors only from the entire Commonwealth of Virginia. The auditions take place in early October. If a student is accepted, the event takes place the third weekend of November at the VMEA State Convention (Thursday - Saturday). The audition requires strong sight-singing skills and good stage presence. Students auditioning for this event should be very well prepared. Both audition fees and participation fees apply.

All Virginia State Chorus
All State Chorus is an audition-based enrichment opportunity extended to students in grades 11 & 12 who participate in District Chorus. Students who qualify and wish to pursue this opportunity must prepare a given audition song in advance. They will perform this song and a sight-singing exercise in a “blind audition” setting for a pair of judges. The top 4 tenors/basses and 8 sopranos/altos in every section will advance to participate in All VA State Chorus. The basso voices will all be placed in the Mixed Choir and the treble voices will be divided between the Mixed Choir and a Women’s Choir. The auditions typically take place the first afternoon of District Chorus, and the All-State event takes place in late April (Thursday - Saturday). Both audition fees and participation fees apply.

ACDA Honors Choir
Various Honors Choirs are sponsored by ACDA and are open to any student in the nation or region (depending on the year) who has a sponsor member. Students submit audition applications and recordings to be selected for participation. Those selected are responsible for their own transportation, lodging and other related expenses. Both audition fees and participation fees apply.
